Resided in SA from 1935. A painter of landscapes, seascapes, still life, figures and abstract pictures. Worked in oil. A number of portrait busts in bronze, including those of the late King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1947 and Dr HF Verwoerd in 1960.Studies: One year at the Royal Academy, Rotterdam, under Koos den Harto; Natal Technical College, under Merlyn Evans and Nils Andersen; briefly under Ernest Oldert, Johannes Ullmann in Johannesburg and at the Witwatersrand Technical College, under Eric Byrd; Regent Street Polytechnic, London, under Harold Brownsword.
ProfileA member of the NSA. 1935 lived in Durban, later in Johannesburg. In 1949 he was living in the Cape, then returned to Johannesburg. Travelled in England and the Netherlands; in 1954 he made an extensive tour of Europe. During the 1940’s married to Elise Laidler.
